Transport
AI Summary
In transport I redesigned the website for Caledonian Sleeper, the UK's iconic overnight rail service, pairing modern, responsive usability with the heritage of the brand, so people keep browsing and discovering while still able to book at any point in the journey.
Design meets the timetable.
Move people and you inherit their impatience. A transport product is used in motion, under pressure, often late and often anxious: the opposite of the calm, considered conditions most interfaces are designed in. The job is to make the complicated feel effortless at exactly the moment someone has the least attention to give it.
Caledonian Sleeper
My work here centres on the Caledonian Sleeper, the iconic overnight rail service between London and Scotland. Redesigning its website meant holding two things at once: the romance of the brand, a heritage service you board at night and wake up in the Highlands, and the hard, practical work of search, fares and booking, responsively, on every device.
I built it on a flexible, content-driven design system so the Sleeper team could keep it current themselves, without it drifting from the brand. That tension (heritage versus usability, emotion versus the booking engine) is the transport problem in miniature. Get it right and the product disappears; you just arrive.
