A concept app for Royal Bank of Canada’s high-net-worth clients: their entire portfolio, from equities to art, brought together in one richly visual, motion-led experience.
Introduction
Back in 2016, Royal Bank of Canada came to us wanting a mobile app built specifically for its high-net-worth clients: a single, private place to see everything the bank managed for them, from investments to art. It was a close, collaborative project, developed hand in hand with RBC’s head of R&D.
Give a high-net-worth client their whole world with RBC in one view: their full portfolio across every asset class, the latest bank news, a direct line to their wealth team, and a calendar of meetings with the RBC team, all in an app as considered as the service it represented.
Strategic thinking & planning
The heart of it was a rich visualisation of a client’s holdings across every asset class (fixed income, equities, hedge funds, cash, trust and art) paired with a weekly, news-style review of how the portfolio was performing. Around that sat the practical tools: message the wealth team directly in-app to talk through the portfolio, and a calendar of meetings with the RBC team. We designed it in the visual language of the moment (highly interactive, motion-led wherever it could be, with full-black imagery) and I produced interactive prototypes and video walkthroughs to show exactly how the app would feel to use.
Outcomes
A working proof of concept that RBC took in-house to make the case to its R&D department, evidence for the kind of product it could put in front of its core high-net-worth clients.
