Introduction

Withers Worldwide is an international private client law firm. In 2019 I worked on the design and build of an invite-only iOS app for their lateral partner hires: senior lawyers joining from other firms, moving through a recruitment process that typically runs several months.

Lateral partner recruitment is long, high-stakes and paperwork-heavy. The app had to do three things at once: handle the paperwork, track progress, and keep a senior candidate engaged through a decision that takes months.

Strategic thinking & planning

It handles the paperwork with a ten-section Lateral Partner Questionnaire covering jurisdictions, admissions, regulatory history, billings and client portability, alongside a document library where candidates read and sign NDAs and agreements, grouped by stage. It tracks progress with a home screen showing percentage complete, what is outstanding at the current stage, and where the candidate sits across the four stages of the process. And it keeps candidates engaged through a long decision with a direct line to the recruitment team, plus the firm’s story, philosophy, financial performance and credentials, so someone weighing up a move has the case for Withers in their pocket rather than buried in an email chain.
