Public Health England · 2020 · Health & Fitness · via Flipside Group
A redesign of Public Health England’s Active 10 walking app, a behaviour-change tool that now holds a 4.7★ rating across 49,000 App Store reviews.
Introduction
Public Health England tasked Flipside Group with updating Active 10 to align with current health policy and user expectations. I joined as Lead UX & UI Designer and spearheaded the project across every stage, guided by ethnographic research.
Update Active 10 to reflect the latest government health policy and meet evolving user expectations, grounded in real ethnographic research, and establish design principles that could carry across PHE’s wider suite of apps.
Strategic thinking & planning
Ethnographic research, then wireframes and user flows, then interactive prototypes, then a PHE-branded UI with engaging micro-animations, focused on an onboarding experience that eases people in. The project concluded with design guidelines for PHE’s app suite.
Outcomes
Strongly positive user feedback: a 4.7 out of 5 rating across 49,000 App Store reviews, with users praising its simplicity and effectiveness. The design guidelines now inform future updates across PHE’s app suite.
